Gonna start this blog off with a bit of history on the character. Baron Ashura (Also known as Baron Ashler, Devileen, or The Double) is one of the main villains of classic 70’s anime Mazinger Z and many of its spinoffs. Originally two lovers known as Tristan and Isolde (A nod to Wagner), the two were confined in a cave after their forbidden love was discovered (In the 2009 reimagining Shin Mazinger, the two locked themselves in to protect the rest of their race from Zeus’ destruction.) In isolation, the opposite halves of each body were damaged before the bodies were found by Dr. Hell (The show’s main antagonist.) Dr. Hell would go and combine the two bodies together forming his loyal servant, creating the creature known as Baron Ashura.

Ashura would fight countless times against Kouji Kabuto and his Mazinger Z, surviving through 78 episodes of the 92 episode series. Along with the original show, Ashura is an important character in the OVA Mazinkaiser, TV series Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen, and various other Mazinger projects.
